PETALING JAYA (July 19): Negri Sembilan leasehold property owners with titles that are about to expire will be given priority to convert their property to freehold.

The federal authorities informed Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun’s administration that based on provisions in the National Land Code, such properties could be converted to freehold status, reported The Star

In order to obtain approval, the state government would need to submit an application to the federal government, Aminuddin said that he was told by land and mines director-general at a recent meeting.

“My administration has also decided that an individual who has more than one leasehold property can only apply to convert one to freehold status,” said Aminuddin to The Star

Prior to the recent general elections, the state Pakatan Harapan had pledged to convert leasehold properties to freehold, if elected into power.

Aminuddin expressed that he was glad the pledge, as a part of the election manifesto, would soon be fulfilled.
