PETALING JAYA (July 20): The Pakatan Harapan administration is focusing on fostering a business-friendly economy, one that cares for the welfare of the people, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s sentiments today, at the 72nd annual general meeting of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Malaysia, the finance minister touched on past issues of corruption.
“Practices, such as crony capitalism, monopoly and mercenary tactics, are the legacy left to us after 61 years.
“We have talked structural reforms aimed at addressing this problem. However, I ask for patience as we have only been in power for 71 days,” he said to the Malay Mail.
Speaking about the three main areas that the new government is focusing on, Lim said: “First, we are working hard to [achieve] a much stronger fiscal and financial position. Second, we want to focus on an economy that will prosper the people and finally, create sustainable economic policies.”
As reported by the Malay Mail, Lim said that to achieve the prosperous economy sought, both the public and private sector must contribute, as well as professionals and the public.
The new government is also trying to curb the rising costs of business while ensuring that Malaysia maintains a conducive environment for thriving businesses.
