PETALING JAYA (Sept 3): The Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) will be postponed indefinitely and Malaysia will not be required to pay Singapore compensation during the period, said Minister of Economic Affairs Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

Stating that he is confident that Malaysia's economy will recover, he said Singapore had agreed to the suspension of the project, but the termination penalty still applies in the event of the project's cancellation.

Malaysia had initially meant to cancel the HSR to ease its massive debt burden and expenditure, which would have subjected the country to a cancellation fee of RM500 million.
