KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): It is important to monitor the parliamentary members’ property expansion during their tenure in the Parliament said the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) director-general Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, reports Sundaily.
“That is more important rather than (monitoring) what they (already) have, because maybe before they became politicians they already have their own businesses or properties,” he was quoted as saying by the daily.
“Personally I will recommend this but it depends to the MPs’ discussions in the Parliament. If there is a proposal, they have to bring it to the Parliament and let the Parliament make policy and decisions on that,” he said.
He said that the decision to track property expansion on a regular basis would depend on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
At present, Abu Kassim said that the majority of MPs have declared their assets.
“There are still a few of them who haven’t declared yet,” he said.
