Hishammuddin denies trying to run from MACC

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): Former defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has denied claims that he was offering to help find fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho to avoid being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Speaking to reporters at the parliament lobby today, Hishammuddin said he has no qualms to cooperate with MACC if they summoned him for any investigations of corruption during his previous administration with Barisan Nasional.

"What does the MACC have on me? I have not been corrupt. If there really is an allegation to investigate me, [why has] MACC not summoned me until now. Let the MACC reveal it themselves if they want to investigate me," he said.

The Sembrong MP reassured that his offer to help find Low, or better known as Jho Low, is under his personal capacity and any expenses involved will be coming from his own pocket.

"If we want to look forward, there must be some closure with 1MDB. If everyone agrees that Jho Low is the critical piece to solve and close the issues surrounding 1MDB, I will help [to find him]. And when I say personal capacity, I will fund [the expenses] myself," he said.

Hishammuddin also pointed out that the Malaysian Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has welcomed his personal efforts to give any information that would lead to locating Jho Low.

"I was told that the relationship between our police and the police there (China) has established a tight network and I will work closely with the IGP [to help with investigations]," he said. — theedgemarkets.com
