KAJANG (Nov 6): Residents in Bandar Sungai Long are having a bad time with a construction site near their homes.

According to a report by The Star, they currently have to put up with loud noise, falling debris and dust coming from the site.

Retiree Wong Nak Tick, 65, who lives at Taman Taming Indah 2 told the English-language daily that rock blasting, deafening noise and vibrations can be “heard as far as 12 houses away.”

Even worse, the report also said that hairline cracks have appeared in some homes as a result of the blasting and residents are complaining they “could not close doors and windows due to misalignments”.

Wong said “chips and dents” were found on glass windows and vehicles owing to falling debris.

“I have made a police report and written to Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) about this,” said Wong.

He also said that mud flowed into their “housing area” because sandbags were not used at the site of the hill development.

Plus, piling continuing late at night are disturbing residents’ sleep, he added.

“Have they obtained proper permission to carry out blasting activities? By right, they must have warning sirens but I heard nothing prior to the blasts,” said Wong.

Meanwhile, development administrator for Darul Majumas Loh Ing Hui said the company has apologised for the inconvenience caused and made efforts to minimise the impact of the construction, reported the daily.

“When construction started in mid-2017, we instructed our main contractor to take immediate action on residents’ complaints,” said Loh.

He also said that complaints of cracks, damaged auto gates were also taken care of while mudflows have been quickly washed away by workers.

“We have sat down with residents and MPKj to discuss this before and both parties have come to a compromise,” Loh explained.

According to the same report, MPKj corporate communications head Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman said the council has received and taken action over Wong’s complaints.

“However, if he is not satisfied, he can write to us again and we will take action,” he said.
