PETALING JAYA (Nov 26): The Johor government will build affordable housing under its Rumah Mampu Biaya Johor (RMBJ) housing scheme according to four criteria – namely monthly household income, urbanisation, the districts involved and the wait list for the scheme, reported The Star.
Johor Housing and Rural Development Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said these factors will enable the state government to better plan for the supply of affordable housing to meet the needs of eligible first-time homebuyers.
He believes this is the best way to deliver the targeted 100,000 units of affordable homes under RMBJ by 2023.
Under the new criteria, the districts will be categorised under three zones – Zone A (Johor Baru and Kulai), Zone B (Batu Pahat, Muar, Segamat and Kluang), and Zone C (Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Mersing and Tangkak).
“Johor and Kulai have the highest waiting list for RMBJ and we will give priority to build more in these two districts,” he said.
Meanwhile, the scheme also has a new price category of homes – RM250,000 and RM300,000 – that is aimed at the M40 group which earns between RM8,000 and RM10,000 monthly.
However, the ceiling price of affordable homes under RMBJ remain at RM42,000, RM80,000 and RM150,000 each for the B40 group.
Dzulkefly said the state was in the midst of finalising the number of homes to be built for the M40 group in Zone A, as this area has the highest demand for such homes.
