Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB), developer of the Penang Sentral transport hub, said they will work with the authorities against taxi and bus operators who flout guidelines.

The Star cited a statement by the developer which read: “We will tighten up enforcement after some operators were found to have put public safety at risk.

“All bus and taxi operators were taken for a site walkabout.

“They were briefed on the locations for pick-up and drop-off at the terminal prior to the soft opening.

“Simulation of the traffic movements were also done with them.”.

There were reports of a rocky start where bus passengers were dropped off at the temporary bus terminal outside, which had already ceased operations since the opening of Penang Sentral.

In the statement, MRCB also said the dedicated passageway for buses is located at Level 1, and buses are not allowed to take the bend at the entrance.

“A simulation exercise conducted prior to the soft opening of the hub went well.

“It is further evidenced by a smooth flow of bus movements since the first day of operations on Nov 22.”
