KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 13): Former Goldman Sachs banker Ng Chong Hwa, commonly known as Roger Ng, was denied bail today as he was deemed a flight risk and might abscond from Malaysia.

News portal Free Malaysia Today reported earlier today that the High Court dismissed an application by Ng to be freed on bail pending the government's decision to extradite him to the US.

It reported that Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah rejected the application.

"This is a special circumstance case where there is a probability that the applicant will abscond," he said in dismissing Ng's application.

Sequerah added that Ng should be held in custody due to the extradition treaty between Malaysia and the US.

Ng faces three counts of criminal charges related to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in the Eastern District Court in New York of money laundering and corrupt practices. theedgemarkets.com
