KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 17): Some 1.4 million civil servants will receive a special payment of RM500 tomorrow as promised in Budget 2019, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Lim said the special payment, which will cost the government RM1 billion, will for the first time be paid in the same year that the budget was announced, instead of the following year.

He said the government decided to pay before the end of the year to help parents in the civil service with their children's school preparation for the new year.

Although the RM1 billion was not allocated in Budget 2018, the Pakatan Harapan government can find the money through savings resulting from a clean administration, he added.

Putrajaya is also making a special payment of RM250 to nearly 800,000 pensioners in recognition of their service, Lim added. theedgemarkets.com
