GEORGE TOWN (Jan 22): The police have recorded statements from eight people in connection to the accident involving two cars which resulted in one being flung into the sea at Kilometer 4.0 of the Penang Bridge early Sunday morning.

Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the eight were friends of the victims who were present at a birthday party in an entertainment centre, witnesses at the scene and family members of the driver of the car which fell into the sea.

“Besides the eight, police will also record statements from several other people, including a man who recorded the incident today,” he said here today.

He added that police will finalise the investigation paper as quickly as possibly before sending it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

"Police will also record the statement of another driver who was involved in the accident after he completes his treatment at a private hospital in Bayan Baru,” he said.

Nik Ros Azhan said police checks with friends of the accident victims found that the driver of the Mazda CX-5 was alone in his vehicle.

“There was no one else in his car during the accident and we believe the driver was in it,” he said.

The SUV was driven by private college student Moey Yun Peng, 20, when it was involved in an accident with another car at 2.54 am yesterday.

The vehicle was found at about 4 pm yesterday of the Penang Bridge before a high-capacity crane arrived at the location at 5.45 pm to begin efforts to retrieve it from the seabed.
