PETALING JAYA (Jan 30): The Chinese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has released  a music video titled "Bahu Kiri" on its Facebook page to commemorate 45 years of China-Malaysia diplomatic ties.

The song -- in Mandarin -- which expounds upon the "warmth and depth of #ChinaMalaysiaFriendship", comes amid a time of frostier ties caused by the suspension of a number of China-backed multi-billion ringgit infrastructure projects, namely the KL-Singapore High Speed Rail and more recently, the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).

Some of the lyrics include: "My right shoulder shields you from the rain and wind, my left shoulder you cling to".

The songstresses featured in the video were Malaysians Lee Pei Ling and Siti Nurmasyitah Mohd Yusoff.

A Malay version of the song will be released soon, said the embassy.

Most recently, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said negotiations over the RM81 billion-ECRL were still ongoing and said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng will make an announcement on the matter soon.

This follows a contradictory statement from Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali saying the rail project was cancelled.
