KULAI (Feb 28): Imagine having a neighbouring home which is abandoned. What is the problem, you may ask.
But those who have lived next to such premises will tell you of the headache it can cause. They include the harbouring of pests and insects that will most probably be a health menace.
Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) councillor Chai Pin Kang is worried about such abandoned houses in the area.
“The matter must be taken seriously, especially with the increase in dengue cases in the state.
“The local council must take action and get the owners to clean their premises, failing which they should clean and charge them.
“Such premises are ideal breeding sites for aedes mosquitoes, besides attracting other creatures,” Chai was reported saying by The Star during MPKu’s full council meeting.
Chai added that MPKu’s enforcement unit “must monitor the situation” at dengue hotspots regularly.
