KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): As demand for flexible workspace in city centres rises Wotso Malaysia is exploring opportunities to expand the brand to other cities in Malaysia.

Wotso Malaysia is a joint venture between Australia-based Blackwall Ltd and UEM Sunrise Bhd,

Blackwall’s Wotso Workspace is one of the biggest flexible workspace providers in Australia, with a presence in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Tasmania as well as Singapore and now Kuala Lumpur.

The first Wotso Workspace in Malaysia is located at the second floor of UEM Sunrise’s Mercu Summer Suites, Kuala Lumpur. It began operation in November last year.

The 14,000 sq ft workspace comprises private offices for small and medium enterprises, hot desks, meeting rooms, video conferencing rooms and phone booths, event space, leisure areas with sofas, foosball table and table tennis table and a pantry. It could accommodates 220 members.

UEM Sunrise Bhd chief marketing officer Kenny Wong said the opening of the first Wotso Workspace is just the beginning of possibly more to come.

“If the opportunity arises -- right location with good demand for flexible space, there will be a second Wotso Workspace in Malaysia.

“The potential second Wotso in Malaysia may or may not be in UEM Sunrise property. It all depends on location, connectivity and demand. But now we need to learn what works here [Wotso Summer Suites], in six months’ time we will know,” he said during a media briefing today with Wotso Workspace and BlackWall Property Funds CEO Stuart Brown.

“We want to build a long-term relationship with short-term contracts. Unlike most co-working space providers, Wotso does not lock its client into long-term contracts. We give flexibility with offerings available by the day, week or month,” Wong added.

Currently, there are some freelancers, locals and expats, who have signed up for the hot desking membership and one social enterprise in kid’s education which will be moving into the private office in March.

According to Brown, there is rising demand for flexible working spaces in Asia, thanks to technology that enables people to work in any place or in any country.

People who opt to work from home may still like to have a nice but less stressful working environment with the necessary facilities – meeting room, broadband WiFi and video conferencing facility as well as the opportunity to have some interaction with others, he said.

Wotso members, he added, are also entitled to work from any Wotso Workspace in the 13 locations it is operating including Australia and Singapore.
