KUALA LUMPUR (March 8): The main contractor of Mizumi Residences has installed additional safety measures at its construction site in Taman Tasik Metropolitan, Kepong, The Star reported today.

This action was taken following a complaint made by Kepong Community Service Centre head Yee Poh Ping with the local authorities on Tuesday over “the lack of safety measures at the site”.

According to the report by the daily, debris had punched holes “on the roof of a jogging track less than 10m away from the construction site earlier”.

“We understand the danger posed by falling debris to residents using the jogging track.

“That is why we are installing temporary double-layered platforms every five levels in order to catch any building materials that may fall,” Binastra Construction Sdn Bhd operation manager Sam Hoi was reported as saying.

Yee’s inspection of the site on Tuesday found that there was “visible damage” on the roof over the track.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) then issued a stop-work order at the construction site the next day.

“Besides fixing the roof, we have added another layer of wood between the two layers of awning.

“We are going to extend the length of the roof by another 50m to cover the entire jogging track in the near future,” Hoi revealed.

He also told the daily that “the roof would be a permanent feature of the walkway even after the construction was completed”.

“I hope DBKL will continue to monitor their operations and make sure that all workers are following standard operating procedures,” Yee said.
