KPKT to take action against PPR home owners who rent out their units

 

PETALING JAYA (March 12): The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has reminded home owners and tenants of People’s Housing Programme (PPR) schemes that they are breaking the law if they rent out their units.
 
Property listings of PPR units on property websites are also not allowed and action will be taken on portals that have such listings. 

In a press statement released last night, housing minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the ministry has received complaints that some PPR unit owners and tenants are illegally renting out (sub-let) the whole unit or rooms to other people.

“[For the PPR tenant] it is clearly stated in the PPR tenancy agreement that tenants are not allowed to sub-let the unit, whether the whole unit or partially (rooms) to others. The respective state governments or local authorities will send out eviction notices to those who breach the contract,” she said.

As for homeowners, Zuraida said there is a condition stated in the Sales and Purchase Agreement that a PPR unit is only to be occupied by the owner and cannot be rented to anyone else. 

If found guilty, owners will be fined or face up to three years imprisonment under the Statutory Declarations Act 1960.

She emphasised that action will be taken by KPKT on those who misuse the PPR units, including illegal rentals and unauthorised sales.

Action will also be taken on property listing portals that advertise the sales or rentals of units in PPR projects on their website or social media platforms.
