KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): Klang folk will soon get a roundabout at the Jalan Bukit Jawa/Jalan Dato Hamzah intersection to ease congestion during rush hours, reported The Star today .

It was decided by Klang Municipal Council that the roundabout was “the preferred option to installing traffic lights at the junction”.

“During peak hours, vehicles can be seen coming from Jambatan Kota onto Jalan Dato Hamzah and turning left at Jalan Raya Barat or to the right to Jalan Bukit Jawa. Others stream down from Jambatan Kota onto Jalan Dato Hamzah to Jalan Tengku Diaudin.

“Motorists from Jalan Raya Barat/Jalan Bukit Jawa, also exit into Jalan Tengku Diaudin to enter Little India,” MPK Engineering Department director Zamri Othman told the daily.

Zamri assured that the roundabout will help ease traffic flow.

“Having a roundabout gives the driver enough time to enter into the circle in the correct lane. Motorists must understand that the outside (right) lane should be used for those wanting to take their first right or those who wish to go in the 12 o’clock direction.

“Lanes on the left should be used for those wanting to take all other exits besides the first right.

“We will make the roundabout safer with the use of road markings to assist motorists entering the roundabout,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Sungai Udang village head Syed Putera Syed Mokhtar, 52, told The Star that it was time MPK sorted out the traffic flow problem in the area.

“Many accidents happen at the intersection that is right behind the South Klang police station,” he said.

“There is a need to have a raised road table and even reflective cat’s eye for better night driving,” he added.
