KUALA LUMPUR (March 31): There has to be an increase in dialogue between the government and the rakyat "to address these grouses and give a reassurance that these grouses are being addressed and seen to," said Tun Daim Zainuddin (pictured).
Speaking in an interview with The Star, the former chair of the Council of Eminent Persons said the Pakatan Harapan administration must understand the rakyat’s rising "anger".
"Be honest and open about the shortcomings," he advised.
"To me, we need pay heed to the talk about cost of living and also the inability of the government to fulfil its manifesto promises.
"Pakatan essentially promised too much in too short a time frame," he explained.
The ex-finance minister said the “feel good” factor enjoyed by Putrajaya after the 14th General Election is rapidly going away, "and is being replaced by an increasing number of complaints".
Daim also told the English daily that he has faith in the people.
"If you are honest with them, they will understand. Do not take the rakyat for granted. People don’t like it if you treat them like idiots," he added.
