PUTRAJAYA (April 1): Yesterday was the deadline to dispose of Equanimity, but the premier yacht looks set to dock in our waters till the next deadline.

There were several offers, but none was willing to meet the minimum asking price of US$130 million (RM543 million), already half of its original price.

The Malaysian Insight reported that 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) lawyer Jeremy Joseph said that Putrajaya was still “evaluating offers”.

An announcement on the luxury vessel’s status is expected soon.

Seized under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA), proceeds from the sale is to be placed in a fixed deposit trust according to Attorney-General Tommy Thomas last year.

Th super yacht which won Monaco Yacht Show’s Best in Show in 2014 was built by Netherlands-based custom yacht builder Oceano. It is the 54th largest yacht in the world at 2,998 tonnes and can cater to 26 guests along with a crew of 28.

Earlier, government-appointed broker Burgess reported that Equanimity might have “up to 20 interested buyers from the Middle East, Russia and other parts of Asia”.
