PETALING JAYA (April 20): Lorong Perbandaran in Klang, which had been scheduled to reopen on April 23, has had its closure extended until the end of May.

The Star reports that now, at the end of the 10 months that it has been closed to traffic, Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin said that at present, the municipality's Engineering Department has not engaged a contractor to build the boom gates to control public usage of the slip road.

"Our Engineering Department is in the midst of getting a contractor to have the boom gates built," he said.

However, he noted that work will start soon, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

"We are considering the time limit to allow the opening of the boom gates. Our proposed times is to have the boom gates open from 6am to 8.30am, and again from 5pm to 7pm. It is going to be one-way from the foot hill at Jalan Raya Barat up to Lorong Perbandaran, for both times," he was reported as saying.

The closure has seen major traffic congestions over the 10 months.
