PETALING JAYA (April 21): Tanah Sutera Development’s Sutera Mall in Skudai, Johor was honoured as the winner of two awards at EdgeProp Malaysia’s Best Managed Property Awards 2019. It won the Editor’s Choice for Malaysia’s Exemplary Retail Mall 2019 and Silver in the 10 years and above Retail category.

With three retail floors spread over 1.2 million sq ft, this suburban mall houses 500 retail outlets that cater to shoppers of all ages. But what stands out is not just its retail offerings but the extraordinary green and community building initiatives other malls could emulate.

It also hosts a 35,000 sq ft free-to-use public library stocked with 60,000 books is no mean feat by any standards. The mall also runs a Kuru Kuru Shop where the public can drop off pre-loved items. These are then displayed tastefully, awaiting pick up for free for anyone interested. To help reduce landfill, to date, 300 tons of food waste have been collected from the mall for recycling into organic fertilisers which are used in its community farm.

Aside from bagging home the Editor’s Choice Awards, Sutera Mall was also awarded the silver winner of EdgeProp Malaysia’s Best Managed Property Awards – Above 10 Years Retail.

Tanah Sutera Development general manager Wee Boon Leong told EdgeProp.my that Sutera Mall, a key component of the Sutera Township by Tanah Sutera Development Sdn Bhd, is extremely grateful and privileged to have received two honorary awards from EdgeProp.my tonight.

"Creating an extraordinary and unforgettable shopping experience is what we aim to deliver to our shoppers. At the same time, we believe that a shopping mall is not just a place to shop, but truly a hub that connects, bonds, and gathers the communities, as emphasized in Tanah Sutera’s mission: Nurturing Communities. We are also very honoured that the panel of judges have described us as ‘a project with soul’. We think that is a very appropriate statement of what we are and we strive to continue living up to this compliment. We want to be there to celebrate memorial events with our shoppers, be it their birthdays, graduations, weddings, and even anniversaries. Sutera Mall is a mall for everyone and for all occasions," said Wee.

He added that refurbishment and reconfiguration is also on the pipeline for the mall.

"We will be introducing thematic precincts and beefing out our entertainment and F&B offerings. We aspire to be the most preferred mall in Johor," he noted.

EdgeProp Malaysia’s Best Managed Property Awards was presented tonight by guest of honour Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddin.
