PETALING JAYA (April 29): Kepong folks are vexed because they have received summons despite having paid their parking fees in Taman Wangsa Permai, Kepong.

“Kepong folk are angry as they feel cheated for paying their parking fee to DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) via mobile application but were summoned by MPS (Selayang Municipal Council) because they did not know that the area was under the municipal council.

“Some of the people even complained to the Transport Minister about the confusion while one person made a police report,” Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng was quoted saying in a press conference reported by The Star  today.

The lack of signage has made many assume the commercial area is under the authority of DBKL, because the address clearly states Kepong, but it turns out MPS has jurisdiction over the locale.

Lim noted there is a sign in the middle of Jalan Wangsa Permai 2/5 asking motorists to pay MPS via the Flexi-Parking mobile application, but “those who park at the end of the road can easily miss the sign”.

He said he has been receiving at least two complaints every month over the problem.

“I have suggested to MPS to put more banners at the main junctions to minimise this confusion,” he said.

An MPS officer and the parking contractor for the area were present at the press conference.
