JOHOR BAHRU (May 3): It has been revealed that 4,809 tenants from the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and government rented homes’ programme Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK) in the state owe RM22.66 million in rental arrears.

Johor Housing, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad said the PPR residents have outstanding rental arrears of RM729,377 while the RSK tenants owed the state authorities RM21.94 million, reported The Star.

“The residents have failed to pay their dues for the past five years, leading to the high arrears,’’ Dzulkefly said during a media conference at the Johor Malaysia Property Expo 2019 here, reported the daily.

“Two eviction notices were issued to them,” he added.

Dzulkefly also explained that the rental charges were “minimal”.

It has been reported that tenants of the seven PPR housing projects in Johor just pay between RM100 and RM124 a month in rents (rents for the Bandar Uda Utama PPR project is RM250) while RSK tenants paid between RM70 and RM124 a month.

The residents of seven PPR housing projects in the state only paid between RM100 and RM124 monthly, with RM250 in rental for the Bandar Uda Utama PPR project.

“Some of the residents think that they are not obliged to pay the rent but they have signed a tenancy agreement with the authorities,’’ he said.
