Well-known Penang developer charged with cheating

SEBERANG PERAI (May 24): Three top executives from a Penang-based developer company have been charged at the Special Sessions Court for Corruption here for graft.

The trio from Hunza Properties Bhd, a well-known developer in the state, were jointly charged for dishonestly inducing delivery of its property on May 8, 2017, reported the Malay Mail today. They are the company managing director Datuk Khor Siang Gin, 49, executive director Thein Ling Yen, 41, and marketing and sales division head Tan Siew Fung, 50.

They were accused of submitting false sale and purchase documents to obtain a waiver of the 30% Bumiputera quota from the housing division of the Penang state secretary office. The quota waiver, estimated to be valued at RM1,635,870, was allegedly applied for Alia 2 residential development in Tanjung Bungah.

Represented by lawyers M. Puravalen and Oh Choong Ghee, all three claimed trial, whereby Sessions Court judge Nizam Zakaria allowed bail of RM20,000 in one surety each and fixed June 28 for mention of the case. All three posted bail.

Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Selvaranjini represented the prosecution.

Under Section 420 of the Penal Code, it carries a punishment of imprisonment of more than a year and maximum 10 years with whipping and fines upon conviction.
