PETALING JAYA (June 21): Two Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) enforcement officers who were recorded on video alleged asking for bribes are being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), The Star reported today.

“The two are currently given desk duties and are not allowed to take part in field work,” Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohd Sayuthi Bakar told the daily.

He also added that MBPJ is carrying out its own internal investigation.

Mohd Sayuthi said efforts are also being carried out to prevent bribery cases from taking place: “We will monitor, raise awareness and if we suspect someone of being involved, we will conduct special motivation courses. When it comes to integrity, we need a more effective system.”

Earlier this week, Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu urged the MACC to probe into the case.

Liu said he received information from several business operators who claimed that MBPJ enforcement officers demanded a sum of money to avoid compound for offences involving signboards display and unlicensed advertisements at their respective business premises.
