KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): The Ampang Jaya area has recorded “a 106% increase in dengue cases” so far “compared to the corresponding period last year”, reported The Star today.

“This is a worrying trend, so we are asking residents to be mindful of their surroundings and conduct search and destroy programmes within their homes.

“Residents tend to rely on fogging when there is a dengue outbreak, but it is the least effective method to control the mosquito population.

“We hope that joint management bodies and management corporations will also cooperate with us when we send teams to check their areas for breeding sites, especially in hotspot locations,” Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Datuk Abdul Hamid Hussain told the daily.

He also revealed that three deaths from dengue were recorded from Jan 1 to June 25 this year.

The daily also reported that there are currently nine dengue “hot spots” in Ampang Jaya, “including Sri Maya Condominium, Kampung Ampang Campuran, Kampung Bukit Sungai Puteh, Apartmen Sri Putri and Flat Taman Kosas”.
