KUALA LUMPUR (July 10): British billionaire/inventor James Dyson is reported to have forked out S$73.8 million (RM224.4 million) to buy the “priciest” penthouse in Singapore, say reports.

According to a report by the Business Times, the triplex super penthouse is located at Wallich Residence, which occupies the 39th to 64th floors of Guoco Tower. The latter is currently the tallest building in Singapore.

A report by Reuters revealed that Dyson and his wife “became tenants of the 99-year leasehold property on June 20”. The penthouse has been described as a "bungalow in the sky".

The 72-year-old Dyson is an inventor, industrial designer and founder and chief executive of Dyson Ltd. He became famous as the inventor of Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner.

The company also makes bladeless fans, air purifiers and hair dryers, among other things.

A Dyson spokesman told Reuters: “Given the decision to locate the headquarters in Singapore and the growing focus of the company’s business in the region, of course James Dyson has bought a property there.”

It was reported nine months ago that Dyson chose the island republic to host the company’s new electric car factory.
