KUALA LUMPUR (July 11): The government will be calling out for more bids for large-scale solar (LSS) power projects by the end of next year, said Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin.

She, however, did not disclose the specifics of the tender.

"There will be some changes on how we will tender it (LSS project), but it will be more innovative and hopefully drive the cost even lower," said Yeo at the Evolution of ESG Investing hosted by Maybank and Bursa Malaysia here today.

In February this year, the government had called for bids for RM2 billion worth of projects under the third round of the large-scale solar (LSS3) scheme to increase electricity generation from renewable energy.

She said the LSS3 is expected to be commercialised in the next two to three years.

Yeo noted that some 719 companies have participated in the tender, saying it "will be a very fierce competition" among the players. The submission of proposals will be closed mid-August this year.
