PETALING JAYA (July 13): They had been unloading rubbish at the spot for the past 20 years but that is still no excuse. And they were caught red handed.

Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat told The Star that three operators found dumping rubbish at an illegal dumpsite in Saujana Rawang were issued with a RM1,000 fine on the spot.

The operators “claimed” they had been dumping rubbish at the site for the past two decades, Chua explained.

“They have managed to escape but this time we visited the area at the right time,” he said.

“Since it is not on private land, MPS (Selayang Municipal Council) can issue summonses to the operators directly,” Chua told the daily.

And to prevent any future dumping on the site, the council “dug a deep hole along the path to stop vehicles from driving into the area”, reported the publication.

A backhoe belonging to one of the operators was also confiscated by the authorities. Chua said MPS would continue to conduct “frequent site visits”.
