PETALING JAYA (July 27): Technology comes to the rescue of Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj). The council is using closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) to catch those dumping rubbish along an industrial road in Balakong, Selangor, reported The Star today.

According to the report, two incidents were recorded by the CCTVs “in a span of one week” since they were installed.

Using the registration numbers seen on the vehicles, the offenders were “traced to a company in Selesa Jaya, Balakong, and another at Dataran Pandan Prima, Ampang”.

And for their irresponsible actions, the company has been slapped with a RM1,000 fine while the rubbish has been sent back to their premises.

“If the culprits are caught red- handed, their vehicle will also be confiscated for a week,” councillor Billy Sun told the daily.

Meanwhile, Balakong assemblyman Wong Siew Ki added that “illegal dumping of rubbish could lead to the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes”.

“Asking residents to keep their homes and surroundings clean would not suffice if construction and industrial sites are not monitored,” she added.
