KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): The main groups which will need to benefit from various government assistance, including programmes to raise income levels are those from the B40 group, the poor and the economically vulnerable.
“Besides this, access to quality education for these groups must be given priority as this would give the opportunity to transform their socio-economic status and livelihood capabilities,” the document which outlined the Shared Prosperity Vision (WKB2030) launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad here today stated.
It stated that the implementation of WKB2030 will encompass all Malaysians.
However, in line with the concept of equality underpinning this effort, certain groups will be given priority, in order to improve their socio-economic status and to ensure that they are not left behind in the government’s efforts to achieve the goals outlined by WKB2030.
The nine target groups identified are the B40, the Poor and the Economically Vulnerable, Communities in Economic Transition, Indigenous Community, Bumiputera in Sabah and Sarawak, People with Disabilities, Youth, Women, Children and Senior Citizens.
In addition, the government will highly commit to recognising the rights of the disabled community (OKU) through the ratification United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and through new domestic laws under the Persons with Disabilities Act 2008.
This initiative will focus on giving access to facilities to safeguard the disabled community, particularly in public spaces, and also improving their quality of life and wellbeing through approaches that encouraged inclusivity.
“Special needs schools to improve their skills must be made available according to need. In this context, education and skills training programmes focused on being independent must be enhanced,” the document stated.
