RAWANG (Dec 12): If all things go according to plan, the very busy Jalan Perindustrian Rawang here will be widened, reported The Star today.

The report stated that a “grant to facilitate” the upgrading of the road has been approved by Putrajaya.

Selayang MP William Leong told the daily that besides the road widening project, there were plans to construct “an elevated highway to accommodate the surrounding industrial zones”.

“Heavy vehicles ply this road often and we have also asked for a pedestrian bridge to be built for the students’ safety,” Leong added.

The lawmaker explained that the 3.1km industrial road is connected to the Rawang toll on the PLUS Highway towards Sungai Buloh, Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Putrajaya and KLIA.

“The road also connects to Bandar Country Homes in Rawang, Bestari Jaya (Kuala Selangor) and Tasik Puteri (Batu Arang) as well as a few primary and secondary schools.

“Residential areas such as Taman Pelangi, Taman Emerald and Taman Garing Utama are also affected by this road,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rawang state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat told the daily that preliminary work for the projects would only start next year.

“The planning and design for the projects has not been finalised.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) has to do preliminary work before construction can start,” said Chua.
