KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 26): Residents living along Jalan Kelab Ukay 2, Taman Kelab Ukay, Ampang Jaya here have been forced to evacuate their homes after cracks were seen on the slope-retaining wall near their homes, The Star reported yesterday.

According to the daily, only one house was “directly affected” by the cracks on the wall but the local authorities have asked the residents in homes on the same row to also evacuate as “as a precautionary measure”.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Public Works Department (JKR) are investigating the cracks.

Ampang Jaya municipal councillor Suzana Shaharudin told the English-language publication that the owner of the affected house discovered the cracks at 4am on Christmas Day and contacted the authorities.

"We wanted to get the house plan for the bungalow but to no avail.

"The documents were kept by the affected house owner's late husband and she could not locate them. It is also too dangerous to search for it in the house now.

"I suspect that the vertical retaining wall was built after the owner bought over the land," she said.
