KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): The High Court said that as there are no material contradictions in the statements made by Datuk Seri Najib Razak to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and his witness statement, therefore there will be no impeachment proceedings.

Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali made the decision after the lunch break today following his inspection of the statements in question.

Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Datuk V Sithambaram had applied to impeach Najib, questioning his credibility as a witness after the former premier had agreed that there were contradictions between his statement made to the MACC and what he said in court.

The DPP made an application under Section 145(1) and Section 155(c) of the Evidence Act, after questioning the witness on the contradiction relating to several Minister of Finance Inc's minutes of meeting documents, which Najib said he had signed.

Justice Nazlan previously said the application was "not without merit" after hearing submissions from both sides.
