From neglected to included – AirAsia’s resident dogs treated to yee sang

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 10): They were there first before AirAsia moved in from LCCT. So the low-cost airline company decided to adopt the four stray dogs which had been occupying the site of its new headquarters in Sepang.

With Chinese New Year approaching, the “permanent residents” of RedQ were given a yee sang treat of dog bites in the flavours of chicken, salami, spinach, strawberries, carrots, as well as kibbles, reported Malay Mail today.

Named AK, QZ, D7, FD, based on AirAsia’s airline codes, the tail-waggers from the same litter currently stay at DogQ.

Vijaya Priya Ananthan, the co-founder of DogQ, said this was the first time such a celebration was held for the pooches.

“It is also to introduce the dogs to the employees so that more will come forward to volunteer their time and take care of them,” she added.

Eight volunteers, all employees of AirAsia, currently take care of the dogs. Their tasks include ensuring their enclosures are clean, feeding and walking the dogs.

AirAsia Bhd CEO Riad Asmat, who also joined in the yee sang tossing, said the dogs have become part of the company. They wear red collars, signifying the airline’s corporate colour.

“We love them very much. They are our family,” he said, adding that it was heartening to see the volunteers lending a hand in looking after the dogs.
