PETALING JAYA (Jan 15): Country Garden Malaysia regional president Jason Fu (pictured) has resigned from the subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed Country Garden Holdings Co Ltd, after four years and five months of helming its operations in Malaysia and Singapore.

In a short message to his former colleagues and business friends today, Fu noted that today is his last day with the company.

Many were surprised by the message as it did not explain his reason for leaving. When contacted by EdgeProp.my, Fu declined to reveal more details.

Fu joined Country Garden Holdings in September 2015 and has been the face of Country Garden Malaysia. He was involved in its Forest City mega development in Johor which carries an estimated gross development value of RM450 billion as well as the 80-acre Lake City @ KL North development which saw its first residential launch in August 2019.

Other Country Garden Malaysia projects in the country include Country Garden Diamond City in Semenyih, Selangor; Country Garden Central Park in Tampoi and Country Garden Danga Bay, both in Johor Bahru.

According to sources, a recent internal restructuring excercise at end-2019 could have led to Fu’s departure. The restructuring process is said to include sustantial job cuts and the merging of the four companies undertaking the various property projects in Malaysia into one.

With Fu’s departure, all operations are currently being overseen by Country Garden Holdings Co Ltd executive director Su Bai Yuan who is believed to be the right-hand man to Country Garden Holdings founder and chairman Yeung Kwok Keung.

As at press time, Country Garden Malaysia has yet to reply to EdgeProp.my’s queries on uncertainties over the future of Country Garden Malaysia and its projects in the country.
