SEPANG (Jan 21): The Sepang Court Complex will be upgraded from this April involving an allocation of about RM825,000 towards improving services and security at the complex.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Mohamed Hanipa Maidin said while the buildings would be repainted, the magistrate’s courtrooms which were currently rather small, would be enlarged.

”The situation has resulted in the magistrates having to share the pathway with the public to reach their rooms. This matter requires urgent attention as it involves the issue of security,” he told reporters at the court complex, here, today.

Mohamed Hanipa said this project was part of the maintenance and upgrading programme involving 120 court buildings nationwide through an allocation of RM120 million announced by the government at the end of last year.

Meanwhile, he said all the court cases involving illegals which previously appeared before the Sepang court had been handled by the Semenyih Special Court for illegal migrants since early this year.

"Hopefully, this will speed up the disposal of cases involving illegal migrants detained by the authorities,” he said, adding that based on the record, about 1,000 per month of such cases were recorded in Selangor.
