KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Former Land and Cooperative Development Minister Tan Sri Kasitah Gaddam is seeking to file a second representation to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) against the government’s attempt to forfeit RM100,000 from him, which is said to be money linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had previously said Kasitah was a recipient of these funds, with the government trying to retrieve them.

His lawyer Sasila Basri told the High Court today that they had written an initial representation letter which was rejected by the AGC.

She said another representation would be made as soon as possible.

Judicial Commissioner Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh set March 3 to hear the forfeiture suit, after MACC deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim told the court that the prosecution is ready for trial.

She said cause papers and written submissions have been filed to the court accordingly.

The MACC had initiated forfeiture actions against 41 individuals and entities alleged to have received money from 1MDB.

It was reported that the MACC is seeking some RM265 million from the forfeiture actions.

The forfeiture was done with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, where the commission believes the monies were transferred to the 41 people and entities from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bank account.
