KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 26): Three lawmakers from former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s faction have said they support interim prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s call for a non-partisan government, the Malay Mail reported today.

Selangau MP Baru Bian (pictured), Saratok MP Ali Biju and Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin said Dr Mahathir’s proposal “reinforced” their stance that reconciliation and healing are the most important thing for Malaysia, they announced in a media statement.

“We reiterate our fullest support for this old wise man to lead the nation as our economy is getting a battering by global issues and now, our country’s political impasse.

“He has the experience and he had saved our country from global financial crisis once before.

“These past few days, the numbers game has put strain on everyone and unnecessarily stressed the nation.

“We therefore welcome YAB Tun’s formula of a national government that is inclusive and non-partisan. This is a new direction for our country which we wholly welcome,” they said.

Dr Mahathir said during a live speech to the nation earlier today that: "Whether it is right or wrong, politics and political parties must be set aside for now.

"If allowed, I will try to form an administration that does not side with any party. Only national interest is prioritised."

He said that politicians, political parties are putting too much emphasis on politics so much so they forget about economic and health issues facing the country.
