Sarawak announces 14-day stay-home notice for travellers after registering 34 COVID-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): Sarawak has recorded 34 confirmed cases of Covid-19 over the last three days, 29 of which are imported cases, the State Disaster Management Committee said today.

The committee also announced several guidelines, including a 14-day stay-home requirement for all inbound travellers and the postponement or cancellation of official events.

“All visitors (foreign and domestic) coming to Sarawak and returning Sarawakians will be issued with a 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN).

“This will come into effect on March 18, 2020. The relevant agencies will monitor the SHN holders through random visits, phone calls and modern technology applications,” it said in the statement.

The committee said exemptions will only be given by the State Health Department to those who are required to travel under special circumstances including official and business duties.

Meanwhile, all Sarawak government official functions involving more than 50 persons are to be cancelled or postponed until further notice.
