KUALA LUMPUR (March 19): China Construction Bank (Malaysia) donated 15,000 masks to Malaysia as part of efforts to help contain the spread of COVID-19, Malaysiakini quoting the Chinese Embassy reported today.

The report said the masks, comprising 5,000 face masks and 10,000 medical face shields, donated by the China state-owned financial institution will be sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor, the main hospital dedicated to treating COVID-19.

"This is only the first batch. More to come. Action without delay. The first batch of materials from China is on the way to Sungai Buloh Hospital," said the embassy at 10.30am today.

Yesterday, China Ambassador Bai Tian met with Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and both of them had discussed the pandemic and aid to be given by China.

"China and Malaysia share weal and woe together. China will spare no effort to support Malaysia defeating COVID-19," said Bai.

Last month, Malaysia donated a total 18,000 pairs of gloves to China at the height of the coronavirus crisis there.

According to Malaysiakini, China today reported zero domestic coronavirus cases for the first time while Malaysia has implemented a movement control order (MCO) to battle the sharp increase in COVID-19 infections.

As of noon yesterday, Malaysia recorded a total of 790 COVID-19 cases.
