KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): Eleven members of the Association of Banks Malaysia (ABM) will contribute RM10 million to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, the association said Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) contributed RM2.5 million, while Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd, AmBank (M) Bhd, OCBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd and United Overseas Bank (M) Bhd each contributed RM500,000.

Meanwhile, CIMB Bank Bhd, Hong Leong Bank Bhd, HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd, Public Bank Bhd and RHB Bank Bhd are contributing RM1 million each.

ABM said it was working together with Mercy Malaysia in the latter’s COVID-19 strategic preparedness response plan to channel these funds specifically for critical preparedness, readiness and response support actions for the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC).

This also includes operation supplies, support and logistics, at-risk-community’s livelihood support and logistics, mental health and psychosocial support, and epidemics and pandemics risk reduction.
