PETALING JAYA (April 9): The Education Ministry will not reopen schools immediately right after the Movement Control Order (MCO) period ends, without considering students' safety first, Deputy Education Minister Senator Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon told Sinchew Daily.
Mah was responding to recent media reports stating that schools have started to prepare for classes to resume after the MCO (slated to end on April 14), have spurred concerns among parents fearing for their children's safety.
“The ministry will continue to discuss with related parties, as well as gather opinions from parents and education institutions. Students’ safety is more important than classes and examinations,” Mah had stressed.
He added that the ministry will consider suggestions from various parties including ways to encourage social-distancing so that students will not gather in a crowd. “We will also meet and get the advice of the Ministry of Health,” he furthered.
Mah also clarified that the MOE did not issue any instructions to schools to prepare for their reopening.
