KUALA KANGSAR (April 15): Eight employees from a funeral service company were fined RM8,000 (RM1,000 each person) for defying the Movement Control Order (MCO), Sinchew Daily reported today.

They were sitting in two vans after completing a funeral ceremony when stopped by a police roadblock at Kampung Baru Sauk and arrested for breaking the MCO rules by travelling more than 10km without movement permits and having more than one person in a vehicle.

The funeral service company operator told the media that they were required to apply for a movement permit for the staff to handle the funeral ceremony, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He hoped other funeral service companies would be aware of the rules and apply for movement permits as required.

The report also said less than 30 persons are allowed to attend the funeral ceremony and police officers will drop by to check whether the attendees followed the MCO rules and keep a safe distance from each other.

It said police had taken stricter enforcement of MCO rules to curb the spread of Covid-19.
