KUALA LUMPUR (April 24): Genting Malaysia Bhd said Resorts World Genting, Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi will continue to be closed until May 12, following the announcement by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to extend Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO).

In a statement, Genting Malaysia said operations at its resorts will resume upon the lifting of the MCO.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and make the necessary announcements as more information becomes available. We would like to assure you that, despite the temporary closure, we have heightened our already stringent hygiene practices to safeguard the health and safety of all our guests and employees. This will ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience once we reopen,” Genting Malaysia said.

Malaysia’s MCO, which was initially scheduled between March 18 and 31, requires non-essential businesses to stop operations, while the public has been ordered to stay at home to curb the Covid-19 outbreak.

On March 25, Muhyiddin said the government decided to extend the MCO until April 14, because updates from the National Security Council and Health Ministry indicated an increase in Covid-19 cases.

On April 10, Muhyiddin said the government was extending the MCO until April 28.

Yesterday (April 23), he said the MCO will be extended for another two weeks until May 12.

At Bursa Malaysia today, Genting Malaysia's share price fell one sen or 0.44% to RM2.25 for a market capitalisation of RM12.78 billion. The stock saw 5.31 million shares traded.
