KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): Yesterday evening, five days after the area around the Selayang wholesale market was placed under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO), The Edge Media Group publisher and group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Ho Kay Tat received an emergency request for personal protective equipment (PPE).

KPMG managing partner Datuk Johan Idris informed Ho that healthcare workers at Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah (PKD) Kepong were running short of PPE as their supply was being used up rapidly as they conducted house-to-house mass screening in the Selayang area.

This morning, less than 24 hours after the request was made, 500 pieces of protective suits, 5,000 pieces of three-ply face masks and 500 face shields were sent to PKD Kepong.

The intention of The Edge Covid-19 Equipment Fund, Ho said, is to make sure healthcare workers are properly equipped to do their job well and stay safe in the fight against the pandemic.

“We must show our healthcare workers that while we can’t be there with them, they are not alone,” he said.
