Malaysia's Covid-19 cases drop to 55 today, no death reported

KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases dropped to 55 today, bringing the tally to 6,353, according to the Ministry of Health.

The death toll stayed at 105 as no death was reported in the 24-hour period up to noon today, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The number of new cases is back at a double-digit figure on the first day of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) after 122 new cases were reported yesterday.

Of the 55 cases, 48 were local infections, of which 24 were detected in Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) areas. The remaining seven were imported cases, said Noor Hisham.

The seven imported cases were detected in Selangor (four), Melaka (two) and Negeri Sembilan (one), he said in his daily Covid-19 media briefing.

He said the number of active cases, which carry transmission risks, fell by 16 to 1,764 from 1,780 reported yesterday.

The ministry also announced 71 recoveries today, bringing the total so far to 4,484, representing 70.6% of overall cases.

A total of 28 patients are being treated in intensive care units, with 13 of them needing respiratory assistance.
