PETALING JAYA (May 16): Malaysia’s strategy to break the chain of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country has inspired Youtuber Dr Dustin Pfundheller to create a video titled “Malaysia’s Incredible Covid-19 Story”, which has gone viral with over one million views and more than 55,000 shares on Facebook since it was uploaded a few days ago.

In the three-minute video, dental surgeon Pfundheller who calls himself an international traveller lauded the government’s quick action to curb the spread of the disease.

“Malaysia is an example that we can all overcome this, how a country that had so many cases did the right stuff to stop the spread and almost no media is talking about it,” he said in the video.

He said Malaysia’s story should be shared to the world. "At one point Malaysia had three times more cases than any country in Southeast Asia and now they're one of the best. It's an incredible story that needs to be told,” he said in the video.

The Covid-19 virus was first confirmed in Malaysia on Jan 25, 2020, with three cases in the country related to a 66-year old man. The situation worsened after a religious event which was held in Sri Petaling in March 2020 where an estimated 16,000 people from all over Asia had attended. The number of confirmed cases then had risen from 99 cases on March 8 to over 200 in less than a week.

Pfundheller praised the Malaysian government’s move to swiftly implement the Movement Control Order and Enhanced MCO which have effectively curbed the spread of the virus and brought down the number of infections, from three digits to double digits. As at May 15, the number of confirmed cases have dropped to 36 cases.
