KUALA LUMPUR (May 20): It all started with a banner at a condominium here requiring all its foreign residents to undergo Covid-19 testing, or risk being barred from entry.

The banner stated that foreigners “will be prohibited from entering SAHC [Sri Angsana Hilir Condominium]” without the “Covid-19 test slip/result”.

Following reactions to the banner, the SAHC Joint Management Body (JMB) has clarified that it will now amend the wordings on it and that the management has not actually prevented anyone from accessing their homes, reported the Malay Mail.

“Though it is stated there, but we still allow them. This is because the majority of the foreigners here all work either in the security or construction sectors.

“Especially Rohingyas, who mostly do grass cutting. So that’s why we decided to put the banner, to encourage them to go for Covid-19 test. That’s all,” chairman of the SAHC JMB, Adnan Mat Ali, told the news portal.

Adnan explained that the JMB “decided to focus on its foreign residents” as “there were not many Covid-19 positive cases among locals”.

“We explain to them that they can still come in and out. No problem,” Adnan explained.

He added that no malice was intended behind the banner, “merely concern for the condominium residents”.

The Malay Mail also reported that Adnan had explained the situation to several owners of units and agents who housed tenants in the condo, and they have “accepted the explanation given by the management”.

The banner was highlighted to the news portal by Galen Centre for Health & Social Policy chief executive Azrul Mohd Khalib on Monday.
