PETALING JAYA (May 21): Reports are coming in of massive jams on the PLUS Highway as thousands insist on going back to their hometowns for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri weekend.

The authorities have already announced many times in recent days about the ban on inter state travel under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) to prevent a second wave of Covid-19 infections.

The Star has reported that traffic flow from the Kuala Lumpur heading north and south of the PLUS Highway has started to slow today ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri weekend and holidays.

"We found that traffic has been slow at the NKVE toll, as well as the road before entering the Bukit Raja toll.

"Traffic is also slow at the Lembah Beringin stretch heading towards Tanjong Malim.

"There is also a 1km-stretch from KLIA towards Bandar Serenia," said a PLUS spokesman today.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) posted on its Twitter that traffic was slow from Lembah Beringin to Tanjung Malim owing to police roadblocks.

Traffic was also slow from Southville City to Putra Mahkota at about 11.43am due to another roadblock.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reiterated today that Interstate travel will no longer be allowed, reported Bernama.

“Even though people are advised and reminded everyday, the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) reported in the morning meeting [Special Meeting of the National Security Council ] today that as many as 1,300 queued up at the Kuantan district police station yesterday to apply for permission to return to their hometowns.

“So I want to stress that the meeting made a decision that interstate travel is not permitted. There is no need to stand in a long queue because the police will not give its permission, we will not allow interstate travel any more,” he said at the daily press conference in Putrajaya today.
